Garrard Crafts the Abu Dhabi Gold Cup 2026
Garrard has been commissioned to design and craft the first ever Abu Dhabi Gold Cup, a new landmark in modern heritage for excellence within horse racing. The $1 million Abu Dhabi Gold Cup is one of the world’s most valuable Listed Thoroughbred races in 2026. This race signifies the first time Abu Dhabi has entered the international Thoroughbred market at this level of global exposure.
An Icon of Modern Heritage
Garrard spent several months with the Abu Dhabi Turf Club to shape a symbol of excellence that would endure as a foundation to the great story of the UAE and the future of its Capital.
Rooted in local heritage and traditional crafts, traditional Al Saudi weaving pattern work, found on the surround at both the middle and top of the Cup, is a continuous marker of respect for the heritage of the United Arab Emirates.
A unique horseshoe monogram of interlocking horseshoes decorates the Cup’s base, a nod to the region’s equestrian prestige, while the Gold Cup’s racecourse is a contemporary framing of the engraved Gold Cup title.
Majestic & Serene Elegance
The overall design language is serene, reflecting the intentionally landscaped facilities surrounding the racecourse, featuring wide proportions that pay tribute to Arabian architecture and elegance.
The Ghaf tree and its leaves are a core design motif. The Ghaf tree is the national tree of UAE, symbolising stability, resilience, and peace in Abu Dhabi’s desert environment. These elegant leaves embellish handles, modern yet timeless, designed to create a striking silhouette front facing, and an ornate detailing when seen from the side. The Cup’s Ghaf tree finial reaches skyward in a statement of intent; an honouring of place and a determination to ascend.
